Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO)


We also regularly conduct training at a client's own venue, anywhere worldwide, including in Africa and the Middle East. Courses are UK DfT and EU (Estonia) approved and recognised worldwide.

Who Should Attend: Security officers and persons who have been, or are likely to be, appointed as Port Facility Security Officer (or Deputy PFSO) under the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. Port Facility Security Officer - Refresher Course 


The Department for Transport now require that all PFSOs who have been qualified for 5 years or more must undertake a 1 day refresher course with a DfT approved training provider. Ship Security Officer (SSO)


Course Aim:

This UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) (MUSC) and Marshall Islands approved training programme provides ship's officers with the knowledge and skills to carry out their duties as a designated Ship Security Officer (SSO), in accordance with the International Ship and Port Facility (ISPS) Code. The course also incorporates the 2010 Manila amendments.

Who should attend

Ship's officers who have been, or are likely to be, appointed as Ship Security Officers under the ISPS Code and those ex-military and police officers appointed to security officer positions in the cruise industry (See below).

Note:  Maritime Security Officers (MSOs) carrying out duties for PMSCs as part of a vessel protection team do not need to hold SSO qualifications. However, as they will be carrying out ship security duties, they will have to hold an MCA approved Certificate of Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD). This is now mandatory and applies to both armed and unarmed personnel carried on board as MSOs.

Prerequisites

  • A minimum of 12 months seagoing service on vessels over 80gt or 24M is required to qualify for an STCW compliant SSO Certificate.
  • Ex-Police and Military that do not have the requisite sea time will receive an attendance certificate which can be upgraded to an STCW compliant SSO certificate free of charge on proof of accrued sea time.

Compliance

The SSO course is accredited by the UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MUSC) and, as such, is recognised by every Maritime Administration in the world. It includes the 2010 Manila Amendments and conforms to Regulation VI/5, paragraph 1 and Section A-VI/5, paragraphs 1 to 4 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978, as amended, and incorporates Proficiency in Security Awareness and Designated Security Duties laid down in Regulation VI/6 and Section A-VI/6 of the STCW Convention.

Company Security Officer (CSO)


We also regularly conduct training at a client's own venue, anywhere worldwide, including Africa and the Middle East. Courses are UK MCA (MUSC) and Nautical Institute (Wavetrain) approved recognised worldwide, and are accredited for CPD.

Who Should Attend: Security officers and persons who have been, or are likely to be, appointed as Port Facility Security Officer under the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. Also suited to Senior Security consultants who wish to add a Maritime dimension to their CV.

Port State Control Officer (Awareness)


Course Aim

To give management an insight into the inspection procedures, methodology and common deficiencies that could potentially lead to a ship's detention. Inspection, including crew member behaviour during an inspection. This can reduce the risk of delays and detention through improvements in operational procedures and increased crew member knowledge.

Who should attend

Personnel carrying out the duties of DPA/CSO, superintendents, operations and fleet managers, senior officers at sea.

Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD)


Course Aim

This UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency approved (MUSC) training programme provides ship's personnel with the knowledge and skills to carry out their duties in accordance with the International Ship and Port Facility (ISPS) Code.

Who should attend

All personnel who have been, or are likely to have Designated Security Duties in the maritime industry under the ISPS Code are required to complete this course. In practice, this means all professional mariners, including superyacht crews. The course is also mandatory for both armed and unarmed Maritime Security Officers (MSOs) carrying out duties as part of a vessel protection team.
